Laout For Hotels

Today I will create a layout for a hotel.

This layout will work also if you have site related to the hotel industry: bed and breakfast, motels, and it will work very good for restaurants, cafes, pizzerias , bars, wineries layouts, etc.
I will use a nice background image and you will see that a simple background image will create an elegant rustic layout

Create a new document with the following size: 1000 pixels width and 1100 pixels height.
Please click on the following image to see the full size image. Save the image to your computer, and then open this seamless pattern in Photoshop. We will use this image to create a background for this hotel layout.

Open the image from above in Photoshop and then go to Edit > Define Pattern. In this way you can create any type of patterns from your images.
You can close the document with this background image and then you need to add this pattern over your layout document. To add the pattern you need to select Paint Bucket Tool.
Be sure you select the pattern you just created.

Click one time on your document. The background for this layout will look like in the following image.

As you can see the pattern filled all the document but at the bottom of the layout it doesn’t look very good. I will fix the problem very fast. With Brush Tool ( and with a smooth brush ) I will make a drawing on the bottom of the layout. It is very important what color you choose to make the drawing. I will recommend you to use the eyedropper tool to grab the exact color or a similar color with mine.

With Rounded Rectangle Tool I will create a shape in the middle of the layout

I will add the following layer styles

Now it is up to you what you will place here. I will use only a image with a restaurant, but you can create here a nice slide show, or maybe a reservation form.

On the top I will create another round shape. this shape will be transformed into a simple menu

I will use one more time Rounded Rectangle Tool to create three shapes.

For all these shapes I will use the following layer styles

Now I will use Pen Tool to create a similar shape like you see in the following image. the easy way to create such a shape is to turn on the Grid (View > Show > Grid )

I will add the following layer styles for this simple scarf.

Here is my result

I will duplicate this layer several times and I will place the new layers like in the following image. Click to zoom

I will add some text and images over this layout.
One more time it will be better if you click on the following image to see better my restaurant / hotel layout

Now I will try to create a scarf on the top of the layout. I will use Pen Tool to create something like this

As you can see I have used the same layer style I have used for the top menu.
Now I will write down ” Welcome to Grafpedia “. This is my final result

If you want to create an eye catching portfolio , then you need to use a different style. If your portfolio will be unique, then you might be hired more than other designers. In this tutorial I will show you how to create a portfolio layout based on a jeans seamless texture.

For start you will need to download the following texture. Click on the image, and then right click on it to save it in your computer.

With this jeans texture I will create a nice backgroudn for this layout.
Open the image in Photoshop, and then go to Edit > Define pattern…
You can choose a random name for this pattern, and after than you need to click on Ok.
Grab Paint Bucket Tool, and make sure you select the pattern you just created.

Press one time inside your document with Paint Bucket Tool. You will see that this pattern will fill your document very nice. Click on the image to see the jeans texture in action.

In the middle of the layout I will create 2 shapes with Rounded Rectangle Tool. I will make this two shapes with white color.

For each shape I will add the following layer styles

With Pen Tool I will create a strange shape at the bottom of the layout. This shape will be used as a footer.

As you can see I’ve made this shape with black. Now I will add some simple layer styles.

With Horizontal Type Tool I will write some text over this portfolio layout. Please click on the following image to see better the result.

In the middle I will place some images from my previous tutorials. As you can see the users will see your portfolio very good. If you have nice designs in your portfolio I am sure you will be hired more, and if you place your designs on the main page, you will allow
your future clients to see better your portfolio.

As you can see all my images are with square corners. I want to change the square corners to round corners. This is very easy, but I realized some of Grafpedia fans doesn’t know how to do it. I will explain now how this simple effect can be achieved.
Select Rounded Rectangle Tool ( use any radius value you want – in my case I will use 5 pixels )

Create a round shape over one image.

As you can see I have used a red color for this shape. I’ve changed also the fill or opacity value to 80 %. the reason I have changed this is because I want to show you better what is under this shape.
The next step which is very important is to hold down the CTRL key, and with your left mouse button, you need to click on the Vector mask thumbnail. ( this small thumbnail is placed near the thumbnail images from your layer palette )

After you click on the thumbnail you will see a selection around the red shape.

You can hide the red shape layer if you want. You will see that your selection will remain active.

Now select the layer with Christmas wreath in your layer palette. and then go to Select > Inverse. You will see the same selection but the active selection is not inside the shape anymore.
Make sure you have selected the image with Christmas wreath, and then hit your delete Key on your keyboard.

You will see that you have successfully deleted the corners, and now your image has a nice round shape. The last step is to Press on CTRL+D do deselect, or you can go to Select > Deselect

I will make the same for all my images, and after that I will add the following layer styles

This is my result so far.

I will use the following scratched icons, and I will place them in the footer of the layout.

With Pen Tool I will create a tab on the left side of the layout.

I will add the same layer styles as the white round shapes.

I will place in the middle a custom shape
